Images & Banners Missing

HOSTS files can be used to block adverts, banners etc. I came across this by accident when certain images were not being displayed in web pages, typically these images were coming from banner sites, and an entry for that particular banner site was in my Hosts File

Hosts files are located:

Windows XP\2000

C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/DRIVERS/ETC

Windows 98\ME

C:/WINDOWS

To view them you will need a text editor, Notepad will do the trick

To download a good hosts file click here.

Once downloaded, extract the file and copy the file over to the relevant directory for your Operating System.
If you decide to add your own entries. Be advised, if you enter a "www.whatever.com" to the hosts file, you will not be able to access this page. Look over the entries listed to ensure none of these sites are sites you normally visit. If there is an entry in the list that you normally visit, simply do not enter it to your hosts file. Also, if you are having trouble accessing a particular site, check your hosts file for an entry for that site. Remove it permanently or disable it temporarily by rem'ing it out with "#" at the beginning of the line. See the example below:

Example:
# 0.0.0.0 www.whatever.com
